For Shanghai Volkswagen, there was the need to implement an "on-site" test track. Initial talks were already held in the mid 1990s in Wolfsburg and Shanghai in order to develop the idea of a complete Chinese test site further. High demands were made on the construction company carrying out the works, in order to fulfil the high requirements of the road surface, for instance, the specific geological conditions in the region of Shanghai. These high requirements also applied for the restraint system as speeds of over 200 km/h are reached on the test track. The test site at Shanghai Volkswagen was finished in 2003 and handed over to its users.
- High speed track, length approx. 4.7 km
- Steep turn construction, EDSP 2-layer, one layer over the other
- Bend camber approx. 49° for speeds over 200 km/h
