Safety has continuously improved on our roads throughout the last years, but the number of severe accidents of motorcyclists increased disproportionately. Several measures were undertaken nationwide under the sponsorship of the government to counteract this process. After intensive research and development this new safety system was installed on the 'L 3024' between 'Feldberg' and 'Sandplacken' in Germany.

The new construction offers following advantages:
- high benefit of security through reduced danger of injuries
- impacts directly to the posts will be avoided by the under-run protection device
- no sharp corners or edges
- especially applicable for protection of trees due to small construction width

Conclusion:
The system is very suitable for winding roads and densely wooded areas with a high frequency of motorcyclists. The system has a length of 4.00 ms. It is applied with pile-driven SIGMA-posts with a post spacing of 2.00 ms. The proven box beam profile is the upper part of the system and covers the post below. To protect motorcyclists from severe injuries to the head, the under-run protection device is installed below the box beam profile. In addition to that, every existing guard rail section can be easily upgraded with this under-run protection device.
