The latest system SUPER-RAIL®LIGHT will complete VR’s range of products by filling the gap between two already existing RAL-systems, i.e. between single spaced guard rail EDSP (containment level H1) and “standard” SUPER-RAIL (containment level H4b). SUPER-RAIL®LIGHT has been developed to meet the requirements of containment level H2. As regards the repair after an impact, the new system is as easy to repair as the “standard” SUPER-RAIL version. Thank to its sturdy box beam profile, the system provides sufficient safety reserves even in case of a considerable impact.

Design:

In general, the design of SUPER-RAIL®LIGHT is based upon “standard” SUPER-RAIL version. There are two major differences: Firstly, the “light” version is not equipped with a lower box beam profile. Secondly, there are new deformation elements which are fixed directly to the posts type C-125. The overall width of the system is now 0.45 ms, the post spacing is 2.0 ms. The minimum length (tested length) comes to 52.0 ms.

Fields of application:

New “light” SUPER-RAIL meets the test requirements for containment level H2, for working width W5 (Wn = 1.50 ms) and for impact severity level ASI B.

There are several possible ways of application: As single system for marginal reserves as well as double system for central reserves provided that the central reserve has a width of more than 2.95 ms. According to the German Guidelines for Passive Protection on Roads using Vehicle Restraint Systems (RPS), the distance between the two systems can be reduced up to 0.25 ms in the exceptional case; that means that SUPER-RAIL®LIGHT can be used even for central reserves of a width of 2.45 ms.
